About Beth...

Beth is the best-selling author of the Daughters of the Promise series -- Plain Perfect, Plain Pursuit, and Plain Promise.  She is contracted with Thomas Nelson Publishing for ten Amish novels and three novellas - releasing into 2013.

As she puts it, her writing has been "all over the place."  As a former newspaper reporter, she was honored by her peers with eleven journalism awards, including first place news writing for The Texas Press Association.
She has been a humor columnist for The 1960 Sun in Houston and published articles in various publications.  Those articles included a wide array of topics - an article on premature birth, an article about performance boating, and an article about her mother--a whitewater canoeing enthusiast who still paddles the rivers at the age of 75.  However, writing novels is where her heart is.  She left her job as a journalist in 2008 to write novels fulltime.

"
Writing about the Amish lifestyle within fictional love stories has been a wonderful experience," Beth says.  "The Amish and Mennonite contacts I have established in Lancaster County help me to keep the books authentic.  These very private people might dress differently, avoid the use of electricity and modern conveniences, but they are just like everyone else.  They love, hurt, have daily challenges and struggles, and strive to be the best they can be.  An often misunderstood sect of people, it has been a privilege to learn about their ways."

On A Personal Note

Beth lives in Texas with her family.  When she isn't writing (which is seldom these days), she enjoys traveling, cooking, fishing, reading, or just settling in for a good movie.

Her best times are spent with family and friends!

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you Amish and/or how do you know so much about the Amish?  I am not Amish, but I have Amish connections and friends in Lancaster County who read the manuscripts prior to publication to make sure the books are inline with the Old Order Amish ways.

When does your next book come out?  Plain Pursuit, the second book in the Daughters of the Promise series, will release in April 2009.

Who is your favorite character in Plain Perfect?  Grandpa Jonas.  I love him.  He has many of the same wonderful qualities that my father had.

How do you come up with characters for your stories?  The characters choose me.  I start hearing their little voices in my head, and they tell me the story I need to write.  It's true.

What advice do you have for inspiring writers?  Have thick skin and never give up.  It's a subjective business that requires getting the right manuscript in front of the right editor at the right time.  I could wallpaper my study with rejection letters.

Can you read my manuscript and/or help me to get published?  I love to read any and everything, and I wish I could.  However, I have very tight deadlines that require me to stay focused on the work in progress.  If I can answer a general question regarding the publishing process, I'd be happy to.  Just email me.

Where can I get your books?  Christian bookstores and most major bookstores such as Barnes and Noble, Borders, and Books A Million carry the books.  They are also at most Wal Marts and various grocery stores, and online at
www.amazon.com and www.christianbook.com.

Will you always write Amish novels?  I honestly don't know.  The success of the Amish sub-genre suggests that I will be writing them for a long time.
